In 2019, with the help of a long-time McLain’s employee, we began roasting our own coffee under the name Sway Coffee Roasters.  We had been using other coffee wholesalers but decided to roast our own coffee to have greater control over the coffee we served in our bakery.

In the early days of Sway, we purchased a small roaster and the operation was up the street from the bakery in Waldo. When they outgrew that space, the Sway team moved to the back of McLain’s Market Shawnee. Not long after that, they outgrew that space and moved the entire operation to its own 4000 sq ft. roasting and cafe space in the Rosedale/Westwood Neighborhood near Westport in February of 2022. After some thoughtful renovation (and a much needed upgrade to the Diedrich roaster) Sway opened a storefront cafe open to the public in September 2022. 

At their cafe, guests can enjoy freshly roasted coffee firsthand. They use a small batch roaster, which gives greater control over beans and maintains the high quality they are known for among cafe regulars and wholesale clients. Throughout the year they offer a variety of coffees, working with direct trade relationships as well as coffee sourcing importers to find the best available beans. 

Sway’s team is a small team of six dedicated to bringing people together by providing excellent coffee. The small team means you can expect a more personalized experience in all aspects of their operation.
